Burning bras, Hindu style

Trendy-Lingerie.com — Hardline Hindus in the central Indian city of Bhopal are fed up with what they consider to be inappropriate lingerie ads.

According to a report by AFP, they have given shopkeepers an ultimatum: remove lingerie ads and mannequins that display underwear, or we will burn them.

The threats were made by members of Sanskriti Bachao Manch, which translates to ‘Save the Culture Forum.’

The group wants shopkeepers to keep bras and knickers or panties out of sight until a customer specifically asks to see them.

The Hindus want to protect ‘traditional Indian values.’

AFP says that “Advertising of underwear, contraception and sexually charged Bollywoood films is commonplace in major Indian cities, but attitudes to sex remain conservative by Western standards, particularly in rural and provincial areas.”
