Trendy-Lingerie.com — Perhaps the bra-burners of the sixties were on to something — though they probably did not have the following information in mind.
Turns out, some bras are bad for our health.
German consumer magazine Öko Test earlier this year reported that some of the 25 black bras they tested included high levels of hazardous dyes.
The use of some dyes, including para amino azo benzene, is subject to strict EU norms as exposure to high levels may increase the risk of getting cancer. Frequent exposure to lower levels of the dyes may have a similar effect.
Some of the dyes can also trigger allergies.
Yet other bras included compounds that can adversely affect the immune system.
Some of the bras tested had high levels of aniline, an organic compound used in many synthetic colors. Frequent or lengthy exposure to aniline may result in a blood disorder in which oxygen delivery to the tissues is impaired.
In addition, some plasticizers — compounds used to make plastic soft and pliable — can interfere with fertility.
The most expensive bra tested, Felina Moments (€42.95) was deemed to be completely safe. Some inexpensive bras, such as ‘The Only Bra bra’ (€12.99) and those of ‘C & A Lingerie’ (€12) were tested as ‘good.’
A €5.99 bra sold by textile discount store KiK was taken off the market after the test was published, as the bra included more para amino azo benzene than allowed under EU rules.
Other bras that received negative ratings were the ‘Chantelle-shirt bra” (€49.95), ‘Women’s World Bra’ (€4.99), ‘Nina C. bra’ (€25.95), ‘Lejaby’ (€39.95), ‘Sloggi Hot Light T-Shirt Bra’ (€27.95), ‘Triumph Angel Curves WDP’ (€39.95) and the ‘Wonderbra Clear Line’ (€26.95). — Trendy-Lingerie.com
