I just love the retro look with curves and style. Yes, the glamour aspect is something many can pull off if they really try with hair and make up of the era, but it is the underwear that really does it.

I can imagine that it might be 'constraining' in a girdle, but the pants - knickers, not panties - of the era were beautifully cut and the range of petticoats available to the 50's girl was astounding and so feminine. A full fluffy chiffon petticoat has to be the most feminine garment ever. And the slips. So soft and smooth. They went out of fashion but were just so gorgeous to the touch. Clothes 'moved' over a slip with a charm that few modern clothes manage, if at all. Who can forget Elizabeth Taylor so sultry in her pretty slip in 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'?

I am a man, by the way. One who appreciates the Woman in women.

I found this article by chance, and almost clicked it away. But the pictures caught my eye, and I can't believe how sexy the old style lingerie actually looks.

I especially like the innocent look of the Doris bra and suspender belt, though the naughty side of me can imagine wearing it without panties, or with just the tiniest of thongs... or maybe something very much see-through.

Elizabeth... what does your comment actually mean?

Oh Helenia! Your message made me smile. I thought it was a bit weird at first as well, but I have come to really like it. When my boyfriend first saw me dressed in something like the pink outfit above it really turned him on. I have several of these retro items now -- including a large, fluffy petticoat that I wear around my place with nothing underneath (or above).

All the old stuff I wore as a child is coming back. Kinda scary and makes you feel old, but it looks great most of the time.

In 2003 we undertook a photographic project and study entitled "modern girls in girdles". Granted it was not particularly scientific but the results were quite interesting.

Seems that whilst structured undergarments are unlikely to attain their former ubiquity any time soon, some young women are actually having quite a bit of fun with the retro look.
